What is RF in SAP EWM?

RF = Radio Frequency Framework in SAP EWM (Extended Warehouse Management).

It provides a mobile, scanner-based interface for warehouse workers to execute processes like picking, putaway, replenishment, packing, counting, etc.

RF allows operators to use handheld scanners (or mobile devices) instead of desktop transactions, making warehouse execution real-time, paperless, and error-free.

Why RF Framework is Used?
  • Mobility: Operators move around warehouse with scanners.
  • Accuracy: Scanning barcodes reduces mistakes.
  • Real-Time Updates: Immediate confirmation of tasks in SAP EWM.
  • User-Friendly: Simplified screens compared to SAP GUI.
  • Flexibility: Can be customized per warehouse process.
RF Process Flow (Example: Picking via RF)
  1. Operator logs into RF device.
  2. RF screen shows open tasks (e.g., “Pick 10 pcs of Material A from Bin 01-01-01”).
  3. Operator scans storage bin barcode + product barcode.
  4. System validates → stock confirmed.
  5. Operator moves goods to staging/packing area.
  6. RF device confirms task completion in SAP EWM.

RF Framework Components
  1. Transactions: Predefined RF transactions (e.g., picking, putaway, HU management).
  2. Menu Management: Defines what menu options operators see (role-based).
  3. Presentation Devices: Mobile scanners, handheld terminals, forklift-mounted terminals.
  4. Communication: Devices communicate with SAP via ITS Mobile (browser-based RF).
Common RF-Enabled Processes in EWM
  • Inbound: GR, putaway, HU scanning.
  • Outbound: Picking, packing, staging, loading.
  • Internal: Replenishment, bin-to-bin transfers.
  • Physical Inventory: Stock counting with scanners.
Transactions for RF in EWM
  • /SCWM/RFUI → Start RF environment (simulation in SAP GUI).
  • /SCWM/MON → Monitor RF tasks.
  • ITS Mobile → Connects SAP EWM to handheld RF devices.
