What is a Logical Transaction in SAP EWM?

A Logical Transaction in SAP EWM is a predefined warehouse process or action that represents a business activity, which can then be executed via RF (Radio Frequency) devices or mobile devices.

Think of it as a shortcut or template for a warehouse operation, like “Confirm Picking” or “Pack HU,” which the system knows how to execute on RF screens or apps.

Key Points
  • Logical Transactions are abstract representations of warehouse tasks.

  • They link a warehouse activity to a specific RF screen or process flow.

  • They do not contain physical stock movements themselves, but trigger the underlying warehouse tasks in EWM.

Why Logical Transactions Are Important
  1. Simplifies Mobile Operations

    • Operators don’t need to know the complex SAP transactions behind the scenes.

  2. Consistency

    • Same logical transaction can be used on multiple RF devices or screens.

  3. Flexibility

    • Can configure different screens, fields, or process flows for the same logical transaction.

  4. Role-Based Execution

    • Logical transactions can be assigned to roles or personalization profiles.

Logical Transaction Description
Confirm Picking Confirms that items were picked from storage bins for outbound delivery.
Pack Handling Unit Packs items into a Handling Unit and prints HU label.
Putaway Moves received goods to storage bins.
Replenishment Restocks forward picking bins from reserve stock.
Physical Inventory Counting Confirms inventory counts in a storage bin.

How it Works
  1. Define Logical Transaction

    • In configuration, assign a name, process type, RF screen, and task type.

  2. Assign to Personalization Profile / Role

    • Determines which operators see and execute the transaction.

  3. Execution on RF Device

    • Operator selects the logical transaction (e.g., “Confirm Picking”).

    • System guides the operator through scanning bins, materials, and confirming quantities.

    • Underlying Warehouse Task (WT) is updated in EWM.

Transactions / Tools
  • /SCWM/LOG_TX → Define and manage logical transactions.

  • /SCWM/RFUI → Test RF screens using logical transactions.

  • /SCWM/PERS_PROFILE → Assign logical transactions to user roles/profiles.
