• Integration:

  • Works closely with SAP MM (Materials Management) and SD (Sales & Distribution).

  • Limited support for complex warehouse processes.

  • Not flexible for advanced scenarios like automation, cross-docking, or multi-channel logistics.

• Use Case:

  • Small to mid-size warehouses with standard processes.

SAP EWM (Extended Warehouse Management)

• Module: Separate application (can run on SAP SCM or embedded in S/4HANA).

• Scope: Advanced warehouse operations with high flexibility and scalability.

• Features:

  • All WM features + advanced ones, like:

    • Slotting & rearrangement.

    • Labor management.

    • Yard management (trucks & trailers).

    • Cross-docking, value-added services (VAS).

    • Kitting, de-kitting.

    • Wave & resource management.

    • Integration with automation (conveyors, robots).

  • Decentralized option: EWM can run independently for high-volume sites.

• Integration:

  • Deeper integration with Transportation Management (TM).

  • Supports real-time data exchange with Material Flow Systems (MFS).

• Advantages:

  • Much more configurable and scalable.

  • Suitable for global, complex supply chains.

• Use Case:

  • Large, complex, or automated warehouses (e.g., 3PLs, automotive, retail distribution centers).
